This year has certainly been unexpected and challenging and with that comes new ways of doing things, hence the need to host the 2019-2020 Edenhope & District Memorial Hospital AGM virtually.
"2020 has been a challenging year for everyone. We have all had to make changes and adapt to our new COVID normal. So that we were still able to meet monthly when the state went into lockdown, we have held all our meetings remotely using the Zoom platform, and I believe that we have all gained some new and valuable technological skills because of it," said Philip Sabien, Chairperson of the Board of Directors.
Mr Sabien thanked the Board for their contributions over the year and welcomed the newest Board members Julie West and Harry Ostendorf, stating that, "Both Julie and Harry are well known within the Edenhope community and bring with them a wealth of skills and experience that will support the Board in achieving its goals and objectives."
He also thanked Annie Osborn who has chosen not to extend her term on the board after July 2021.
"I thank Annie for her substantial contribution to the hospital over the last 6 years. Her commitment, dedication, and wealth of local and practical knowledge will be sorely missed. It is my hope that Annie will remain an active part of the hospital, acting as a consumer advocate on sub-committees."
Mr Sabien thanked CEO Andrew Saunders and his leadership team for steering the organisation through what has been one of the most challenging years for health services. Recognition was also given to all EDMH staff for their commitment to the community over the past year.
“On top of the lock down restrictions we all endured, [staff] also faced additional significant restrictions on them and their movement across the facility, as well as the need for them to don PPE, be fully vaccinated, and diligently monitor their own health, temperatures, and travel. Their diligence has been critical in ensuring we keep our residents safe."
"The Primary Health team, and in particular the Day Centre and District Nursing staff have gone above and beyond to actively keep the community together,” Mr Sabien stated, praising them for, “the provision of care packages including games and activities, hand sewing masks, compiling and delivering newsletters every fortnight."
The support and understanding provided by the community has not gone unnoticed, he noted, stating that, "Families of our residents have been incredibly understanding with all of the changes and restrictions, and the community truly pulled together to ensure our residents knew they weren’t forgotten. The drive through to happiness was an incredible event that many of the residents still talk about today."
"The 2019-2022 strategic plan was released publicly in July, with hard copies available from September. This very important document guides the Board and Executive team when making decisions that impact on the services we provide to our community."
"I am very pleased to present the 2019-2020 Annual report of the activities of the Edenhope & District Memorial Hospital. The annual report was tabled in Parliament on the 10th of December and so was only very recently approved for publishing.
This report is available for download here, there will be some hard copies available from reception within the coming weeks."
