Community to Guide New Health Path

The newly formed Grampians Health wants community guidance on the best possible structure to ensure services are improved to our regional hospitals.

The service is lobbying for community members from all corners of the organisation’s footprint to become active consultants on reference groups.

Grampians Health formed in November 2021 with the commitment to improving health services to the Grampians and Wimmera regions. Several months of community consultation provided definition on what residents in each region needed from its health service.

Data gathered at the consultations was a catalyst behind Edenhope and District Memorial Hospital, Stawell Regional Health, Wimmera Health Care Group and Ballarat Health Services creating a new health service.

Grampians Health  CEO Dale Fraser said community representation was vital to ensure the right services were delivered to the right places.

“We are looking for the right mix of community members with a genuine interest in their health service,” Mr Fraser said.

“They don’t necessarily need to be regularly using our services,” he said.

“They just need to be aware of what their community expects from its health service and be a voice for those who need our support.”

Grampians Health has formed a community advisory committee with representatives from each of the four regions reporting to its board of directors. Five community reference groups representing Dimboola, Horsham, Edenhope, Stawell and Ballarat will report to that advisory committee.

Reference group members may also be contacted by senior Grampians Health staff to gain their opinion on a possible program or event planned for their particular region.
