Peter dons backpack and hiking boots for half-marathon
Edenhope’s inaugural Half Marathon event, on March 2, should be a walk in the park for Peter Irving.
The 66-year-old is in training to walk the 96-kilometre Kokoda Trek, over eight days, alongside his son Jake.
Edenhope’s 21-kilometre event presents a timely challenge, which Peter will complete while donning an eight-kilogram backpack and hiking boots.
“Yes, hopefully it will be easy, at this point in my preparation,” he said. “I don’t want to fail (the Kokoda Trek) so I have to keep it up.”
As Edenhope’s CFA Group Officer, Peter had to prioritise fire-fighting efforts in recent weeks. He can otherwise be seen walking around Lake Wallace every morning, before hitting the road on long bike rides.
The Edenhope half-marathon is the brainchild of Grampians Health Edenhope community health nurse Cath McDonald, who is driven to improve health outcomes in her community.
Starting at Henely Park, at 7.30am on Sunday March 2, participants will have access to portaloos and water stations along the course.
You too are invited to join this community event!
