On Saturday eight brave riders from Edenhope departed Mildura faced with a 22km an hour head wind. A smaller than normal crew but they certainly made up for it with strength and determination.
The Murray to Moyne is a team relay event. Participants raise funds for hospitals, health services and health related charities. The event continues Graham Woodrup or Woody's dream of getting more people to realise the fabulous health and social benefits of riding a bike and using your talents to help people.
Riders cycle in teams departing from either Mildura, Swan Hill or Echuca arriving in Port Fairy, a total of around 520km.
This years riders were Dennis Sharkey, Matt and Lisa Oliver, Jess and Andrew Nelson, Kieren and Buzz Brennan and Jason Sondhu.
Brayden Giles drove the bus and Darce Penrose drove the car and provided massages to relieve those aches and pains!
The team were very impressed with 15 year old Buzz Brennan who completed his first Murray to Moyne this year, he totalled over 200 km for the weekend which is a fantastic effort, word has it he rode more kilometres than his father Kieren.
This was a big year for Dennis Sharkey who rode his 20th Murray to Moyne - Congratulations Sharkey! Stay tuned for 20 questions for 20 years with Sharkey in next weeks paper.
A big thanks must go out to the maintenance team at Grampians Health - Edenhope for all they did getting everything ready for the team to leave, to the drivers for their patience and Luke and Jenny Munro for feeding the team Saturday night and of course to the families of the riders for their support.
We would also like to thank all the sponsors and community members who have donated. We thank the many businesses who contributed to the new tops. Unfortunately the new tops were promised to arrive before the event, but due to the shipping issues in China they did not make it on time so will be new tops for next year. We look forward to acknowledging the sponsors when they arrive.
Edenhope have been entering a team in the Murray to Moyne cycle relay since 1993 - so that would make it 29 years!
All fundraising made by the team throughout the year goes towards Grampians Health - Edenhope and will be used on improving the facilities and services locally.
Well done to this years riders – you did a superb job and we are so proud to have you represent Edenhope.
- Sara McDonnell (Team captain)
