Edenhope College students shine during work experience
The future is looking bright at Grampians Health Edenhope, with a group of work experience students demonstrating the professionalism and care every organisation hopes to nurture.
Whether it was preparing meals in the kitchen or playing games with residents at Lakeside Living, Edenhope College students brought fresh energy and enthusiasm to every department in 2024.
Year 10 student, Chloe Dubois, was among the last cohort for 2024.
“I love cooking, so I wanted to come and see how the kitchen works,” she said.
“I’ve chopped a lot of vegetables and made a lot of new recipes; I don’t usually cook savoury stuff, so I’m learning a lot.”
Chloe – who is rather famous for her birthday cakes, Christmas treats and a list of slices – impressed Food Services supervisor, Carl Hartas.
“You could tell she wanted to be here and how much experience she has with cooking,” he said.
“It’s always interesting to see the different personalities and how they go with the fast-paced environment; Chloe did very well.”
Sierra Jorgenson and Marlee Henderson penned thank you letters following their time with the organisation.
“Your generosity in letting me cook, help out and be involved in the day-to-day tasks around the kitchen has meant so much,” Sierra wrote.
“The positive energy and teamwork you all have make it clear this is a truly great job, and I’m grateful to have had the chance to be a part of it, even if just for a short while.”
Marlee described “an incredibly valuable and rewarding experience”.
“Over the course of the time at the hospital, I gained valuable insights into the healthcare profession and had the chance to observe and participate in a variety of tasks that have broadened my understanding of the challenges and rewards of working in a medical environment,” she wrote.
“I hope to have the chance to work with you and your team again in the future.”
Grampians Health Edenhope campus manager Tricia McInnes congratulated students on their performance.
"It's great that the students want to come and consider a future in healthcare," she said.
“It is a credit to the students and the school that staff are so positive about incorporating work experience into their role.
"Hopefully work experience leads to a career for some of these promising students."
