Recently the Edenhope community was invited to the Edenhope & District Community Centre to hear about the importance of Advanced Care Planning form Grampians Health team members, Tania Shepherd and Carine Bezuidenhout.
Advance care planning gives people the opportunity to think about, discuss and record their preferences for the care they would like to receive if they are unable to voice their wishes at the time.
Advance Care Planning is not a will, and has nothing to do with property or money, it is about the choices you would like made relating to your health when you may not be able to communicate your wishes.
The event was really well received, considering the wet weather we experienced on the day. Tania’s passion shone as she engaged with the audience on this important topic highlighting just how beneficial it is to create an advanced care plan before your health declines. An advanced care plan helps your family or care by giving them guidance around making decisions on your behalf at a very difficult time.
Carine spoke on the importance of encouraging family members to complete their own advance care plan so that their wishes can be known, should they ever be unable to speak for themselves.
There is lots of great information and resources about Advanced Care planning at www.advancecareplanning.org.au or call into the Health & Wellbeing Hub at 65 Elizabeth Street, Edenhope and have a chat!
