Tuesday March 23rd saw the first recipients for the Edenhope area receive their COVID-19 vaccinations. The first to receive the vaccination was long time Edenhope resident Lois Krause.
Very matter-of-fact about the experience, 94 year old Lois responded when asked how it felt to be the first in Edenhope to receive the vaccination said “Well somebody’s got to do it”
“If you don’t have it [the vaccination] and you get it [COVID-19], you will be very ill and you will be wishing you had it. “
Having received plenty of needles throughout her lifetime, Louis was not one bit worried about having the needle. “Having the needle is little enough to pay for the risk of getting the virus.”
Lois encourages everyone to have the COVID-19 vaccination when they can. “Everyone should have it. We should just trust in the people who know.”
Lois said she wasn’t too affected by COVID-19 last year: “I certainly wasn’t worried about it – if people were dropping like flies then I would be worried.” She did miss being able to see family, however in her practical way she said, “But if you know that [visitor restrictions] is how it is then that is how it is and you accept it.”
CEO Andrew Saunders said today was a significant day for us in the COVID-19 journey, with the commencement of Phase 1a of the COVID-19 vaccination program for aged care residents.
“The majority of Kowree Nursing Home and Lakeside Living residents have now received their first COVID-19 vaccinations and excess vaccines were given to some staff. It is planned that the rest of the staff will receive theirs in the coming weeks once the vaccinations become available.”
“I am grateful to our staff who have taken on additional COVID-19 training to assist with the vaccination roll out. We have 4 nurses who are immunisation trained, and have been required to do the specific COVID vaccination training. We have admin staff who have done training to assist with the data entry side and nurses who have done training to assist with the observation and drawing up of the vaccine.”
I would also like to thank Wimmera Health Care Group and Ballarat Health Services who have assisted us greatly with the roll out of the vaccinations.”
For us to live more freely, we need the added protection of COVID-19 vaccines. To find out when it is your turn visit Australia.gov.au or call the National coronavirus and COVID-19 vaccine helpline 1800 020 080.
For now, please remember we all need to stay COVIDSafe.
