All patients may access the Dental Service including private patients and public patients.  Public patients are those who hold a current Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card AND who are resident in the state of Victoria.

How much does it cost?

Private patients will be charged by the dentist for their dental care.

Public patients are required to make a contribution towards their dental care, called a co-payment.  The co-payment for general dental treatment is $27.50 per visit.  The co-payment for an emergency course of care is also $27.50. For children under 18 years of age there is no charge.

Deposits towards the co-payments are required to be paid at a rate of $27.50 per visit prior to your dental  appointment.  After 4 deposits of $27.50 have been paid, no further deposits will be required unless  specified by the dental administrator.

At the end of a course of treatment it is determined what co-payment should have been made.  If a patient has overpaid his/her co-payment it will be refunded. If the total of deposits towards the co-payment were underpaid, an invoice will be sent out for the balance.

Provision of dentures will incur a small charge to the dentist/technician who completes the work.  The charge for dentures will not usually exceed $123.

Where is the Dentist Located?

The Dental Service is situated in the Elsie Bennett Community Centre on Lake Street.

For those patients with a current Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, co-payment deposits are required to be paid at the front office of the Hospital.

What services are provided by Dental Services?

General Dental Care:  This includes check-ups, cleaning, fillings and extractions if they are needed.  It may also include minor denture repairs.

Emergency Dental Care:  This covers treatment required urgently and is to treat the immediate problem only.  If follow up care is necessary, this will be regarded as general dental care.

Dentures:  Private patients may purchase dentures as required.  Public patients are eligible for assistance through the Victorian Denture Scheme, however a waiting list system operates.  If you require more information on this scheme, please contact dental administration or dental staff.
