District Nursing

This service provides skilled nursing care by fully qualified nurses who assist people during periods of illness or disability to remain in the comfort and security of their own homes.

The visiting nurse will also help clients retain independence by teaching them and/or their families to care for themselves. They can also advise on the purchase or hire of home aids and the availability of other services and social benefits

What services are provided by District Nursing?

  • Assistance with personal hygiene for clients with high care needs
  • Injections
  • Palliative Care
  • Medication management
  • Any other treatment as ordered by Medical Officer
  • Rehabilitation
  • Supportive Care
  • Wound management


The visiting nurse will call following a referral or request from a Medical Officer, the Hospital, family members or individuals. On the first visit they will discuss the needs of the client, the treatment to be provided and how frequent the visits will be.


The service has a charge which the nurse will discuss with you on your first visit.
