Lakes hostel

The Lakes Hostel is situated in a tranquil setting overlooking Lake Wallace.  The 22 spacious single rooms allow residents to have their favourite chair, dressing table and some personal items if desired.  All rooms have private en-suites and a personal safe for valuables.

The Lakes Hostel includes a large open plan communal dining room and lounge area with large windows that overlook the lake, where residents can dine relax or join the wide range of activities offered daily by the Care Staff and regular Diversional Therapy visits some activities include:

Residents are also able to attend the numerous activities and events held in the Elsie Bennett Community Centre:

  • Morning Teas and more

The Lakes Hostel offers an outdoor area for residents to enjoy the sunshine and outdoor activities, participate in BBQ’s when provided by the Hostel, or families are able to come and join their resident for family functions on special occasions.  Personal gardening areas are available for permanent residents. A supervised smoking area is also easily accessible.

24-hour care is provided by personal carers and care is overseen by the Hospital’s Registered Nurses who liaise between medical officers and other allied health services to ensure the best care is provided.  As the Lakes Hostel is located on the same site as the Edenhope and District Memorial Hospital residents have access to a wide range of health services including:

Breakfast is prepared in the Hostel Kitchen which allows residents to prepare their own morning meal when they are ready with assistance from staff if required.  All other meals are prepared by the qualified onsite chefs in the hospital kitchen allowing us to maintain specific dietary requirements for each resident taking into consideration personal likes and dislikes religious and cultural dietary customs.  Assessments of special dietary needs are completed in consultation with the resident, our dieticians and doctors.  Menus are frequently revised and residents are given the opportunity to have input through the regular Resident and Relatives meetings held at the Hostel.

The Hostel has its own hairdressing room, where a qualified hairdresser attends 1 day per week, residents are able to make appointments with the hairdresser. The cost of the hairdresser is paid for by the resident.

To maintain resident independence the hostel also has a small laundry where residents are able to wash their own clothes with access to an outdoor clothesline. However, a full laundry service is available at no extra charge. The hospital laundry also has a name labelling service available to ensure clothing and personal items are returned to the correct owner. All bed linen and bath are supplied by the Hostel.

The Lakes Hostel provides respite care for people who may require a small amount of time in residential care due to health issues or carers being unable to provide required needs at home. To use the respite facilities an Aged Care Assessment (ACAS) is required, that approves the client for respite care.

Private Room with En-suite

Our private, light filled rooms with views of Lake Wallace each contain a comfortable height adjustable/electronically operated bed, built-in wardrobe, call bell, large windows and access to a spacious en-suite. Residents are encouraged to bring their own chair and television. All linen and bedding is supplied by the Hostel, however residents are encouraged to make their rooms more personal with familiar furnishings and memorabilia.
