Edenhope & District Community Bank donates funds for Tri State Games participants

A sponsorship cheque for $500.00 was recently presented at the EDMH Open Board Meeting by Edenhope & District Community Bank Chairman, Sara McDonnell and Board Member, Miller Morrow.

“The Edenhope & District Community Bank is pleased to be sponsoring EDMH for the Tri State Games.  What a great opportunity for these athletes to get involved and compete against others.” Sara said.

The Tri State Games has been held annually in November since 1986.  It started in Mildura, Victoria where a disability centre invited other centres to come and enjoy some fun competition and social interaction.  Since then it has been held in various other locations within South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria, including Horsham and the Grampians.

Day Centre Co-ordinator, Kirily Ryan, has played a big part in organising for participants to attend.  “Emma Hunt and Phillip Caulfield can’t wait to represent Edenhope at the games this year!”.  Both Emma and Phillip will be participating in various events including athletics, swimming and indoor sports.  “It is a great opportunity for social inclusion, the competitors get to meet new people and make lifelong friends”.

Fred Carberry will be taking the team up as a volunteer driver, and Lara Rogers will be there to assist as a Personal Care Worker.  Kirily advised, “We will be staying just down the road at a rental property in West Beach, so we will be in close proximity to where the games are being held at Semaphore”.

“Cath McDonald has also been busy training them in readiness for the big day.  Emma won a silver medal in swimming last year, so she is hopeful of winning gold this time around.  Both of them are optimistic that they can better their personal bests from last year!”, says Kirily.

This event has been largely supported by the local community with EDMH providing the bus and staff time, Jo Grant from West Wimmera Shire paying their registration fees, Edenhope Op Shop donating $300.00 and Bendigo Bank $500.00.

Whilst the week will be jam-packed with the initial opening parade and subsequent sporting events, the group are taking Wednesday off to visit the Adelaide Zoo, have a tour of the city and a buffet dinner at the Watermark Hotel in Glenelg.

Please wish Emma and Phillip all the best of luck when you see them!
