Building Project Update.

It is wonderful that the community is keen for information on the Aged Care re-development.

We are at the moment finalizing the design plans and cost plan, and with DHHS approval will move to the tender stage of the project.

We will be hoping for local trades to be used on the build to inject money into the local community.

The plans have been submitted to council for Planning Approval, a demolition permit has been issued and demolition on 122 Elizabeth street has commenced.

Dr Lalani receives recognition of outstanding contribution to Rural Health

We are very proud to announce that Dr Lalani was the recipient of an outstanding contribution award at the 2018 Victorian Rural Health Awards in Creswick on Saturday night.

The awards honour exceptional medical specialists, GPs, nurses, Aboriginal health workers, general practices, practice managers, allied health professionals and medical and nursing students working across rural Victoria. Dr Lalani has said it was a lovely evening, attended by around 160 guests including community leaders, politicians and senior CEO’s and staff and Victorian health industry leaders.

This award is extremely well deserved as Dr Lalani has been providing integral clinical services across the Hospital including the Medical Clinic, Acute, Kowree Nursing Home and the Lakes Hostel Hospital, 24 hours a day 7 Days a week for over 5 years. Her dedication to the Hospital, all of its patients, residents, staff and the community as a whole are exemplary.

As well as the wonderful treatment Dr Lalani provides to EDMH patients, her clinical expertise and leadership across all facets of the Hospital is invaluable to the ongoing development of our workforce.

We congratulate Dr Lalani on behalf of the Hospital Board and staff, however please feel free to congratulate her personally as well. I would also like to thank all the locum doctors, hospital staff, and of course her husband Bandu who support Lalani in her role.

Perfect conditions for the 2018 Murray to Moyne

Our local Murray to Moyne team took part in the annual cycle relay event last weekend.

The team of 10 cyclists worked in tandem to complete the 520km ride departing 9am Saturday from Mildura arriving just after 10am Sunday in Port Fairy.

The team this year was made up of riders Kieran Brennan, Dennis Sharkey, Trevor McClure, Matthew Oliver, Lisa Oliver, Sara McDonnell, Melissa Mills, Kevin Mills, Tim Sharkey and Chad Eastwood.  Support team was Dale McDonnell, Vanessa Eastwood and Darce Penrose.

The team this year dedicated the ride to long time former team mate Lesley Payne.201

Conditions for cycling were just perfect for the weekend with a northerly wind providing a boost to speeds for the riders. Altogether there were 800 riders and approx. 400 support crew involved in this years ride.

The riders arrived in Hamilton on the Saturday night at around 9:30pm, then after departing Hamilton at 7am the next morning arrived in Port Fairy just after 10am, which is unprecedented.  The strong northerly winds providing a tailwind certainly contributed to this.

“It was a fantastic weekend and altogether we had a really good time, it is really great to be a part of the team, we all work together well.” said team member Dennis Sharkey

Riders have been raising money and will continue to raise money throughout the year for the Edenhope & District Memorial Hospital.

Recently the team have provided funds toward the purchase of gym equipment for the new exercise room located at the Elsie Bennett Centre, funds to contribute towards the purchase of a new bus for the Hospital and air conditioning in the Elsie Bennett Centre.

EDMH CEO Kevin Mills who participated in the ride was very grateful “On behalf of the Hospital thank you to all the riders and support crew, also to the community who get behind our team.”

“There are many health and social benefits from cycling and to pair that with raising funds for your health service is a great opportunity.”

‘‘We really appreciate everyone who has been involved over the years, allowing us to purchase much-needed equipment that can’t otherwise be bought for the hospital.’’

The Murray to Moyne is an annual team relay event, new team members are welcomed, if you think you might like to be a part of next years team please visit the EDMH website for more details or contact the hospital.

Apsley Racing Club are running the Tour De Frances (Apsley to Frances and return) on Saturday the 9th of June with all proceeds being donated to the Murray to Moyne. Details of the event can be found on the EDMH website.
